Art maps and recs, 9/10/24 - 9/15/24
Are we all exhausted yet from the art world’s “back to school” week? Buckle up because we are in for another busy one, though there are only about 100 openings this week vs. over 300 last week…
I was glad to get back into my normal gallery crawl Saturday routine, and went to 58(!) exhibitions. I made a map of everything I saw. This is *excluding* all of the openings that I went to earlier in the week — I don’t really count that as seeing the exhibition, especially this week when it was often hard to physically even get into the gallery spaces because of crowds. The map of everything I saw is linked below through the image, and a spreadsheet is linked here.
Some noteworthy moves and new arrivals from the opening of this season:
Gratin has taken over the old 47 Canal space at 291 Grand Street. Unclear if they’re still keeping their original space in the East Village.
Sebastian Gladstone – a recent arrival from Los Angeles – has taken over the old Nathalie Karg space in 291 Grand Street (we tried to visit both but neither picked up when we pressed the buzzer).
Derek Eller has left 300 Broome Street and moved into the main floor of 38 Walker, previously occupied by George Adams Gallery, which is now located on the lower level.
Hair & Nails joins the Henry Street cohort at 39 Henry Street (lower level)
Ed Varie has left their space in the East Village and has moved to 4.5 Cortlandt Alley in Tribeca
Karma is opening its new Chelsea location — which seems to be an addition and not a replacement for its spaces on East 2nd street — on Thursday, September 12th with the exhibition Manoucher Yektai: Landscapes
There are good things to be seen all over town again this week, and here’s what’s opening this week that I’m excited to see. Map is linked below!
