NYC art map and recs, 2/4/25 - 2/9/25
Hi all! I’m having FOMO for one of the literal only art weeks that I actually get FOMO for, which is Mexico City Art Week. I went last year and it was so much fun, with really high quality work that mostly doesn’t look like the same stuff I see in New York. Hoping I’ll make it back next year! It’s a little bit of a light week for openings in New York this week, but still enough to see.
I focus mostly on gallery shows (obviously) but want to point out that there are some really fantastic shows about to close at museums uptown — the Met’s Flight Into Egypt is up through Feb 17th, and is one of the better thematic shows I’ve seen in awhile (that feels very relevant to the lots of feelings that people have been expressing about art and identity, etc., and maybe gives more questions than answers, which I take to be a good thing). If you’re up that way, El Museo Del Barrio’s triennial is also worth seeing and closes on Feb 9th— by no means a perfect exhibition, but I think did a pretty solid job in terms of being wide-ranging but also well-curated.
Also once again linking my running list of current gallery shows recommendations in list and map form!
