NYC art map and recs, 3/31/25 - 4/6/25
Hi folks! Is it Spring yet? We had another weird weather day last Saturday, where it hit the high 70s before dropping to the low 50s around 5pm…luckily, the morning version of myself that brought a jacket and was sweating for most of the day was grateful in the evening.
I did kind of a weird trajectory of crawl on Saturday, where I started at the Karma location that’s right off Bowery, went south on Bowery and over to Tribeca to catch everything that’s opened there the last two weeks, and then did some of the Chinatown galleries before ending up back in the Lower East Side. I started at Karma because I wanted to catch a full cycle of the Mungo Thompson’s Time Life film series while I was fully caffeinated, and I’m very glad I did.
Another busy week coming up (do y’all want to see a roundup of how many exhibitions have opened each week so far this year?), and especially want to recommend Baldanders, a performance by Andrew Woolbright and Phong Bui at Anton Kern Gallery on Saturday where makeup artists will apply prosthetics so that each of them adopt the likeness of William Blake and Immanuel Kant while interviewing each other. There are other sound and performance components and it all sounds too wild to be real.
