NYC art map and recs, 8/19/25 - 8/24/25
Hi folks! Another quiet-ish week as the August lull continues, and galleries are gearing up for the return to art season in September. There are over 200(!) exhibitions opening the first week of September, which coincides with Armory Show, Independent 20th Century, and a couple of other smaller fairs — luckily a bit of a less jam packed fair calendar than Spring brought!
I managed to actually take a couple of days off while on vacation last week, so the big Fall preview newsletter is still in progress but should be out later this week.
If you’re looking for something to do on Saturday, Rockaway Beach Sessions hosts its annual performance this week, where it commissions a choreographer — this year it’s Kim Brandt — to make a new work that is performed on the beach. I’m *not really* a performance person but I’ve been to a couple of the ones in previous years and they’re really incredible to experience, and it’s a fun excuse to schlep out to the Rockaways!
