NYC art map and recs, 4/22/25 - 4/27/25
Hi folks! I can finally stop whining about the weather, because Spring is really trying at this point! Cue me likely complaining about it being too hot for comfortable gallery crawling in approximately 2 weeks…
This weekend is Dumbo Open Studios, which is my favorite (and the overall highest quality) of all of the neighborhood oriented open studio events around the city. This is at least somewhat because a few different residency program open studios (Smack Mellon, Sharpe Walentas, and Triangle, among others) are rolled into it, and you can see quite a lot quickly since the studio buildings are really big.
It’s also MFA thesis show season, with both Columbia’s and SVA’s opening this week (linked below), and ISCP Open Studios takes place on Friday night and Saturday. ISCP is another favorite recurring event of mine and I try really hard to go each time (it usually takes place 3 times per year).
In case you missed it, I posted a guide to the Spring’s upcoming art exhibitions — there are over 200 opening between this week and the second week of May when most of the art fairs take place! I’m making updates to it multiple times per week as more things are announced, so keep checking back.
Geography brief:
